HS - Back when I tried fitting when the TS series came out. I went to club champion for the fitting. They couldn't improve in performance from my 917D2 driver. The fitter fit me into a shaft for the 917D2 head and it was a marked improvement from what I had and better than the TS options. They had the shaft pured and swing weighted to my head. I still game it off and on and there was a remarkable improvement in performance with the new shaft. It changed from a stiff to a regular shaft.

Controversial at best. Today’s shafts have better technology than 20 years ago.

Custom builders swear by it. Not to mention it is an add-on expense, like undercoating from a car dealership. Fortunately, at worst, it does no harm. Undercoating often did hasten rusting. If shafts were really that much out of balance, then the OEM’s would have to offer it, at least as an option. But none do. There is nothing approaching the 4 piece non-Titleist ball that the inner core was off-center so much as to send balls 20 yards offline.

I never has a club that was consistently functionally inconsistent with my other clubs. I can’t say the same for my swing. Everyone’s game relies on a certain amount of confidence with the equipment they use. If you will have better piece of mind with purring, go for it.

I do not know much about it, but I was buying shafts recently and I did see it as one of the options. Wish I would have opted for it...

Most modern quality shafts don't need to be pured. Some people swear by it but I have yet to see any improvement from anyone I know who has had it done, including me.
Better to pure your swing than to pure the shaft.

I would look at it this way. The players on tour want to have every advantage they can since how well they play determines how much they make. Most players do not have their shafts pured. To another point, the shaft making process is much better than it used to be.

I have tried it and I saw no difference in performance.

The question came up during the factory tour at Carlsbad last year. They did not feel that modern shafts need it and that's why they do not do it. If a company that prides itself in quality products does not think it needs to be done. that's good enough for me. As for why it used to be a good thing, all steel shafts were made by wrapping a sheet around a mold and welding it together. The weld seam would be thicker and flex differently. Some shafts now are actually compression molded like a forged iron and have no seams. Others are robotically welded and the interior shaved so that there is virtually no difference in the entire shaft. I kind of see "puring" much like that floating golf ball device that helps you find the balance point on a golf ball. Probably made sense on wound balatas but not on today's golf ball, yet they still sell them.

The Tour Pros don't get their shafts pured, it is a sales gimmick for more money. There was a video that Ian who is with Club Champion now had done a test on two drivers with the same spec on each except one shaft was pured and the other was not pured. The results were that the non pured shaft did better but it was really close.

Had pured shafts on a set of cally Apex Pros that I bought used. Other than a decal on the shaft, I couldn't tell any difference from all of the other clubs I have played. Definitely wouldn't pay to have it done. Put that $50 per shaft into lessons or several dozen ProV1s and you'll be happier.
