I often play with a group of old timers, some have been playing golf for 50+ years, seeing most of my pals who golf are far away. This is my third year and I can’t get enough.
I’ve been a lifelong surfer and skateboarder and I knew there would be a time where I’d need to find myself a slightly less impact sport to partake in. Golf has been in my radar but I’ve never really kept score or even owned my own sticks. A few years ago I dove in deep. A large number of my aging skateboard pals have also taken up golf and it’s brought us all back together. Like when we would land a great trick or catch a cool video to add to our archive, we would all support and cheer each other on. Now it’s like the old days with the golf apps, tracking each others games from all over the world and praising our pals once again.
For my story… I’m a bag carrying walker and like a little mid week speed round. There’s a challenging little track in western Massachusetts that I can run through 9 holes in just about 75 minutes. The 3rd hole is a 110y par 3, downhill, 3 feet of fringe on the back edge of the green with a drop off into a gully. It is narrow and slopping and so easy to hit short or long here… I’ve dropped off the back edge of this little puppy way too many times. Not today.
As I set up, I said to my buddy, I’m not going to hit this scuffed up crappy ball in case I get the ace. So I switched it out for something new.
Just 2 bounces and a 6 foot roll into the cup! Boom my first hole in one.
I love this game!
