Jin Young Ko (Pro V1) birdied five of her final seven holes to win the LPGA’s season finale by five strokes.

  • Ko posted four rounds in the 60’s, closing in 6-under 66 to earn her seventh-career LPGA title.
  • Of the 18 events played on the 2020 LPGA, 15 were won by Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x players.
  • Sei Young Kim (Pro V1), who tied for second, secured Rolex Player of the Year honors after winning twice the season.
  • Ko has held the No. 1 spot in the Rolex world rankings for 73 consecutive weeks. Kim is No. 2.
  • Danielle Kang (Pro V1x) finished the season with the tour’s lowest scoring average (70.082) to win the Vare Trophy.
  • Of the 72 players in the field, 56 trusted a Pro V1 or Pro V1x for their success, more than nine times the nearest competitor with six.

PGA & CHAMPIONS TOUR | PNC CHAMPIONSHIP

Titleist Brand Ambassador Justin Thomas (NEW Pro V1x) teamed up with his father and longtime Titleist Staff Professional Mike Thomas (Pro V1x), making 15 birdies in a closing 15-under 57 that earned Team Thomas a one-shot victory in the two-day scramble event.

  • Following their opening round 10-under 62, the Thomas’ started with seven consecutive birdies Sunday morning to move up the leaderboard.
  • On 18, Justin hit wedge to 5 feet, then watched his father roll in his Pro V1x for what would be the winning birdie.

Mike Thomas has been saving a Titleist golf ball from each of his son’s more than 135 victories since elementary school, which are on display in the pro shop at Harmony Landing Country Club in Goshen, Ky. Mike now has another Pro V1x – or maybe two – to add to the rack.

JUSTIN THOMAS’ SWITCH TO NEW PRO V1x

Justin Thomas switched to NEW Pro V1x two weeks ago at the Mayakoba Golf Classic after a testing session with Fordie Pitts, Titleist’s Golf Ball R&D Consultant on the PGA Tour.

According to Pitts: “Justin and I worked together at his home club in Florida during Thanksgiving week, testing golf balls and discussing his performance goals for next season. One of the things JT has been talking about wanting to see is a slightly higher trajectory in the long game, so he was really excited to see the ball flight and distance he was getting with New Pro V1x. He also pointed out how well it held its line in windy conditions. We tested other options, but he wanted to put the New Pro V1x in play (at Mayakoba) and see how it performed under the gun in competition.”

New Pro V1 and Pro V1x will be available in golf shops around the world in early 2021.

MIKE THOMAS’ TRUSTY SCOTTY CAMERON

During a visit to the Scotty Cameron Putter Studio well over a decade ago, Mike and Justin took notice of a putter on the drying rack waiting to be gripped. Scotty had made that putter – a Studio Design Prototype 1.5 with a welded slant neck – for Titleist Brand Ambassador Jay Haas. Mike mentioned to Scotty in passing that he really liked the look of that putter. Shortly following the visit, a surprise package arrived at Mike Thomas’ house. Scotty had built Mike his own version – and it’s been in the bag ever since.

“My buddy that I’ve had for probably 20 years,” Mike said about the putter, prior to this week’s event. “It just kind of showed up at my door one day and I’ve enjoyed it ever since then. Hopefully [Justin] will hit me in close enough to the hole so I can use this to tap in a really short one.”
