There was a lot to talk about during the Genesis Invitational this past week. What truly resonates with me is that Max Homa was once again high up on the leaderboard. He could easily have won had someone else not had some extra assistance from the golf gods and a fortunate deflection off the stands... No question that Rahm earned his win. but even he has to admit things could have been a lot different if the stands were not there to set up his eagle !

Also I think if they set a huge compound up to run a tournament and it's more than 50 yards from the edge of the fairway and you hit it into it, it shouldn't be a free drop. It should be played as a hazard. For some reason I have a hard time liking players who continually use the rules to their advantage. Rahm learned from one of the best as he was mentored by Phil.

I will not disagree about the use of the stands. There are a number of tournaments where the players are not afraid to hit the ball hard and go for it because they know they will get a drop if they go beyond the green. The argument can be made that all the players in the tournament get the same opportunity. My thought however is that the course designers did not plan those when laying out the areas around the greens and the course should be played as designed ! I am with you Todd... Treat the stands as you would a huge tree if it is in the way, and if you are in the stands - it is a penalty area. Let's see what others have to say :)
