i had been fitted and playing a 910 d3 with diahana 72 gr stiff shaft...my spin rate was out of control early in the season so this is what seemed to help. My swing speed was 104 as well ( 2.7 handicap) i unfortuneatly came home from vacastion and found that someone liked my driver at the airport. Since then i have re-created my swing and hence my swing speed is averaging 95.... So while i wait for a check from the airline, im trying to do some research and wanted you input. with a slower swing speed and a spin rate much more in line what would you suggest for a driver makeup ? gary naperville ,illinois
  2. Gary,

With a swing speed of 95, you are right on the cusp of reg/stiff flex.  If you have had some issues with spin rate, try testing the RIP shaft.  A store will typically have it in stiff flex, however you can get it in reg. at no up charge.  This shaft plays a little stiff, so the regular plays more like a firm.

thanks george...... for my second time around should i stay with the d3 or look into the d2 head ?.... and if and when i dial in my new swing....and my swing speed increases a bit (and being on the cusp or reg vs stiff) would you lean towards stiff,,, as a just in case ? i did notice that the rip reg feels a lot like a stiff , to me
  4. Ben Crane just won using the D2.  It is a matter of preference....the D3 allows you to work the ball more.  I prefer the forgiveness of the D2.  I just don't know of too many courses that require a major draw or fade off the tee.  If you order a club through Titleist, you could always ask them to tip the RIP regular an inch to put it right in between regular and stiff.

  5. I also have a swing speed around 95-100 and like this idea. When you say "tip" do you mean remove 1/2 - 1 inche from the tip of the shaft?

i went in again to hit a few balls and apparently my swing speed is back up around 98 ,99 i was fresh that day. I guess the first time i brought up this dilema was after coming from the range, and i was tired...hence a slower swing speed. so i assume im back into a stiff shaft thanks
  7. Gary,

The RIP shaft loads really well in the stiff flex.  I have hit it in the D2 with my 95 swing and still produced good distance.

  8. Yes Graeme,

I would suggest taking a 3/4" off the RIP.  It is a great shaft that reduces spin rates.  Decide what length you want it to play to as well.  I am 5'10" and am playing 45"...this gives me good control with little distance loss.  In fact, since I am hitting the sweet spot more often, I have hit some of my longest drives ever at age 53.
