Strange. What were the circumstances of the fitting? Indoor/outdoor? Mats/turf? Was the launch monitor you used for the fitting the same as you're using now? Were the numbers normalized?

There are a ton of potential variables for why numbers could be different, but they shouldn't be that drastically different. I would contact the fitter and ask him or her to take a look.

2 types of fitting days. Too much adrenaline and can't hit 3 clean shots in a row. Or, getting into a grove - might need the occasional wedge or fairway wood shot to break up the grove. A special subclass is getting fit indoors on a mat. Launch is better and fat/thin hits get unrealistic results. I always get fit outdoors, but no matter how the fitting goes, I still need to get comfortable with the new set. If there was a significant weight change in the shaft, I've had to deal with multiple sh$#*s.

Trying to get a little better understanding about your comment. How many rounds of golf in those two months? Do you play every day or once a week? Sometimes it takes a while to groove new irons in a routine fashion, especially if you are coming from a set that were quite a bit different. You also said the clubs were evenly spaced and usually the fittings are just with an adjustable 7 iron so it sounds like you may have had a few early rounds where they performed as expected but tapered off over time? Sorry if my assumptions are wrong, I am just trying to figure it out based on your comments. Hopefully it just an adjustment period and you soon get comfortable and start to groove them nicely.

I have to assume the numbers you're speaking of would be distance. As others have mentioned a ton of variables exist that could explain your situation. Knowing the actual "numbers" you're referring to could be helpful. Without that, my first thought would be to have loft checked on the set.

What about the golf ball used at the fitting? Same as yours or different?

Sorry for the delay in responses guys. My numbers are still the same, I have tried different balls... Prov 1 and 1x plus different brands altogether. On the day of the fitting it was outdoors and I used all the balls available as part of the fitting experience. The numbers still do not tally and I have been playing the irons all summer.

I decided to sell my old irons in favour of the better numbers with the AP3 and I am genuinely not seeing an improvement at all. Certainly not an improvement to warrant buying new irons!

I am now very dubious of the whole fitting experience and whether the irons used on the day had preferable lofts!

Part of the reason you could be experiencing differences is how you set up to the ball at the fitting booth. I did an iron lie angle check at Golfsmith about 12 years ago. My 9 iron and PW were bent upright 2* more. My 8 iron was flattened 1*. No change to the 7 iron. Went to the range: I couldn't hit the 8 iron no matter what. Did ok with the 7, 9 and PW. I went back and had the fitter restore the lie angle on the 8 iron - problem gone.

How far off are they? Even if Trackman was normalized we dont play golf in perfectly normalized conditions, elevation, wind, temperature, margin of mishit, firmness of the turf can change your distance quite a bit. When I do fittings I never focus on total distance, I look at comparitive distance - is the new club averaging 12 yards more than your current club in a side by side comparison - never do I say now your 7 iron is your 160 club instead of your 150 club etc. A good fitter will also eliminate all of your bad shots and from there delete a handful of your best shots, the overall average is better than only looking at your best hit. I would stick with them if distance is the only complaint, just might take time to learn new numbers.
