Can someone please explain (in english) why when you open the clubface on a driver, the loft actually decreases, and when you close the face you are actually adding loft???? It tells you that in the fitting manual however it doesn't actually explain why it is?

    Christian,

It the opposite of your explanation -  A shut clubface delofts the club and an open clubface adds loft.

Thanks gator, but the fitting book from titleist reads as I wrote it. I have been to seminars where it has been said as well, I thought I heard it wrong, but it says it just as I asked the question! Maybe someone out there can answer my question for the both of us!!

I think they are refering to impact, most things in golf are opposite from address to impact.

Thanks Frank, I was just curious as to why exactly, even if someone gave me the scientific reason. Thanks again.

  6. Frank's explanation is absolutely correct.  The information Titleist provides for face angle and loft are based on getting the club face back to square at impact.  If you start with a more lofted setting the clubface must close at impact to get back to square.  It is the opposite for starting with less loft.
