T200 set bent strong

  1. I went for an iron fitting yesterday and decided on the T200’s. My fitter recommended that I order the entire set with 2 degrees stronger loft. From what I could tell, his primary reason was because my distances were slightly less than some of the other clubs I tried. I also think he wanted to get my height down. We didn’t have the time to discuss how the 2 degrees of reduced bounce might impact how well I hit the clubs, and I’m still relatively new to golf, so I’m concerned that the clubs I receive will play differently (and potentially worse) due to the altered bounce.

My questions are 1.) is it wise to have ordered the entire set 2 degrees stronger (granted you all don’t know the specifics of my swing) and 2.) if desired, could the entire set be bent 2 degrees weak in the future (back to the standard lofts) without any risk, matching what they otherwise would have been?

    Thanks!

Titleist does use a +2 degree head for custom orders of +2 to +4 degrees. So I think +2 will have the factory bounce. They could be bent back to zero, but that would then add bounce from the factory spec.

You can check with the fitter to see if that is part of his choice to use +2 degrees. The other impact is the PW will now be 41 instead of 43 degrees (or W of 46 degrees) so you may need to check your wedge gaps.

Can you define yourself as a digger or sweeper? The reduced bounce will impact the digger more. This will also impact wedge gaps as well with a 41 degree PW.

Chasing distance with irons is sexy advertising, but the other school of thought is distance is what it is, and just need to gap to the distance. The pros use 620 and T100 irons with “traditional” lofts because they prefer consistency from release to release.

Find a new fitter. There certainly will be a negative effect of altering the bounce. There is no legitimate reason to make them stronger. You lower ball flight by selecting a different shaft. The body of the heads are cast, so if you bend them more than once, you run a very strong risk of cracking or breaking one or more clubs.
  5. Hate to say but that does not seem like a logical solution in getting a lower flight. there are multiple shafts and head combinations that can fit your swing better.
