GT3 Teething Issues

  1. Good evening all, and Merry Christmas!

    Following a fitting at Wham Golf, I now have a GT3 Driver, but am struggling with it a bit, my good shots are definitely better than previous, but I am having some that are just 200yd worn burners, or even worse off the tee, feeling like I hit it with a bag of spuds. Unfortunately, my pro is off sick and I have 3 games before any possibility of getting on Trackman to see what the issues are, will give details below, and any quick fix ideas are very welcome. Having got desperate, Chat GPT has suggested increasing tee height and adding 2-4g of lead tape to the bottom / rear of the driver. I am nervous of teeing too high and skying my unblemished driver, but it does feel like the easy solution.

    New driver GT3 9 degree, D4 setting increasing to 9.75. Tensei 55g Blue 1k shaft. Old driver TS2 10.5 degree, 6.0 Hzrdous Black

    Swing speed is around the 100-105moh mark

    I went through almost the exact same thing with my driver, so I can definitely relate to this.

    I was getting some absolute rockets mixed in with random low burners and dead ones that felt awful off the face. The good shots were really good, but the misses were brutal and confusing.

    What finally sorted it out for me was a retro fitting at the Titleist fitting centre. We ended up going ½” shorter and bumping the shaft to X-stiff, and that combination made a huge difference. My strike pattern immediately tightened up and moved much more consistently into the middle of the face. Ball speed stayed there, dispersion improved, and the random drop-offs basically disappeared.

    Before the refit I played around with tee height and even thought about adding weight, but in my case it wasn’t a head issue — it was delivery and consistency with the longer, softer build. The shorter, stiffer setup just let me control the club better and find the sweet spot way more often.

    Not saying it’s the fix for everyone, but if you’re seeing low-face/heel contact or random knuckleballs, it’s definitely something worth looking at when you can get back on TrackMan.
