Would you give up yardage to find more fairways?

In testing, two shafts, with my gt3 I find that one costs me ten to twenty yards off the T but finds the fairway. I'm not sure I can live with that distance loss. What would you do? Thank you so much.

Find a fitter and try a few more shafts. If the distance is there, a good fitter can probably steer you to a shaft that will give you close to the same yards and tighten up the dispersion.

    This is the answer

10-20 yards is a major change in distance. At a bare minimum worth exploring other shaft options. Beyond that it’s a question of how far off the fairway you’re talking with the longer distance. Being off the fairway is fine if you’re able to keep it in play.
  5. I agree with what others recommended - see a fitter, there might be a better combo that blends the two and creates that tighter dispersion you are looking for while retaining some of that distance you need. Let us know how you make out!

It heavily depends how bad your misses are. I can live with my miss in the rough if I can get it way down there. I can't live with the innate risk involved in playing it safe then having a much harder shot in if that tee shot doesn't go according to plan. It really comes down to risk management along with course management.

If you can get another 20 yards towards the green, take it. Could be a huge jump in terms of strokes gained but this is a golf discussion that could seemingly be never ending
