    Hi TT,

It's the simulator (Winter) season here in Wisconsin. I'm looking forward to keeping the swing mechanics in check with a newly formed simulator league starting soon. However, I've been contemplating making a gear change in regards to the grip size for my clubs. I've been tending to pull more shots which from what I've concluded is due to the L.O.F.T. in my golf game and/or a need for a larger sized grip. My hands measure 8.5 inches from the crease of my wrist to the tip of my 3rd digit. This falls in line for the recommended switch to a mid-size grip.

I'm curious as to your insights/experiences with making a switch. I'm going to start with a mid-size grip on my 2 hybrid which is the club I tend to pull most consistently.

  2. My hands measure just over 9" using your scale and I play oversize (Winn Dri Tac to be precise). I have been playing them for 10+yrs and have turned other friends, near my height, on to them as well and they have not looked back.

Interesting that you would only change your hybrid. For me, consistent feel in all my clubs is essential to playing well. I can only stand to have a different grip in my putter. All other clubs must be the same grip model and size. Color does not matter to me as my irons are black/white and the driver & fairways are all black but all are standard GP Velvet 360. If you think mid-sized is needed for you, I would consider changing all of them and seeing how all parts of your game react, including chips and pitches. You might find that your left shot is not due to the grips at all or you might find that everything gets better. You can always revert back later if needed. Anyway, go with what works for you and best wishes in 2024.

My initial thought was to make a change to just one club. However, your point of looking for consistent feel across the whole bage makes a lot of sense. Sage advice, Dale. Hit 'em straight.

I play mid-size too, first I tried it in my driver, 3W and 3H. Dale V is right. What a difference when I put mid-size on all of them.

An alternative is to add wraps to bulk up a standard. Too large and some fine muscle control can be lost. If too small, too much grip pressure may impact your swing.
Have fun with your own trial and error.

I can't tell you if a grip will fix your shot tendency, but I can tell you that I switched to midsize years ago. The second that grip slid onto the club i was putting it on I knew that i made the correct adjustment. Midsize grips have have been an amazing part of my setup for me personally.

Sage advice from all. Thank you TT. My initial thought was to start small and make the grip change to my 2H. Dale's comment of "consistent feel through all clubs" makes a lot of sense to me. Make a consistent change that could lead to the consistent results that I'm after. This is the time of year to work on those changes. Appreciate the insights, TT.

For me, I haven't done any research to suggest this is correct or not, but I keep standard grips on the 2 clubs I really play with the most: Driver and 60*. I move the driver left to right and right to left often depending on the hole and I found I could not really right to left with the oversized grip and it was too much left to right.

For the 60* I do it because I play with the lie/loft often...opening it up for flops or back in my stance for a little skipper. Seemed like it was more difficult with the oversize grips.

Likely the 8" between my ears rather than science.

I have similar sized hands…. I use Golf Pride Mid-Size +4 grips. I have same grip on all clubs except for obviously the putter. Go ahead and change just your 7i and PW to try them out indoor off-season and see if you notice anything good or bad. If good then go ahead and change all clubs for consistency in feel/grip pressure.

    Good luck and hit’em straight!!

I like going a little bigger in grips but the midsize are a little too big. I use the GP TV Plus 4 with 2 wraps of build up tape and one wrap double sided tape. I like to do all my own just to make sure they are consistent.

I had my Irons regripped last week and accidentally had midsize grips installed. I measured my hand and its at 7.6 so right on the fence between midsize and standard. I keep going back and forth over what feels better standard or midsize.

Grip made a huge difference for me. I played standard size until I finally got fit. After fitting, medium size grips were suggested. The difference was night and day. Like you, I experimented and for driver and 3 wood game jumbo. I went from pulls to straighter shots. The jumbo seems to slow down my wrist and club face. My grip feels more natural.

As for consistent feel throughout the bag? My wedges are z corded. I hit and practice with them the most. Also controlling a chip with sweaty palms when temps spike - not an issue. Whatever works best for your game.

I have small hands, but use mid size grips on the driver 3wood and 4 wood and MCC+4 on all my irons and wedges.I have a "handsy" swing and tend to get a little quick at impact. My miss, as you can probably guess is left. The mid size grip is harder to turn over, so it's helped me hit the ball straighter. I really like the feel of the MC+4 which are non tapered.
