    Hello TT-

My left knee has finally come to the point of needing replacement. My surgery is in a couple of months because they have to wait a few months after my last cortisone shot.

I was thinking about what I can work on while I am restricted from swinging a club. Here are a few ideas I have and I am open for suggestions from TT. Books to read, pod casts videos....

    1) Putting practice (ordered a putt out practice mat) 2) Work on my mental side of the game

I would suggest working on your core and flexibility. If you’re dying to hit balls, chip some plastic balls in the backyard. If you have been keeping stats, go over those to see the trends and write up an improvement plan. Good luck with the rehab.

    John-

Thank you for the ideas. I did start keeping my stats last year and I will do a deep dive into what the data says about my game.

I've had both hips replaced and in sometime in the next 12 months i'll be getting my right knee replaced. The surgeon and PT people will dictate what you can do and when you can do it. I know you'll be chomping at the bit, but the main thing is to have a successful recovery.

Thank you for reaching out with some good advice. I will definitely listen to my surgeon and PT.

Wishing you a solid and quick recovery on your upcoming knee surgery and rehab.

Rob - While you are in rehab make sure that you focus on general fitness outside of the knee. It is easy to get behind on fitness while you are restricted from surgery. I would also talk with your PT during your rehab process about areas to improve on. Your PT should be able to help you with a plan to increase flexibility, strength, power while you are getting back to 100%.

I am taking your fitness advice to heart. I put together a list of goals and questions for my PT.

Thank you for sharing some very good ideas and thoughts.

I had a total knee replacement at the end of January and, working with my physical therapist, by March I was given the okay to start putting and doing light chipping (I started therapy a week after surgery). Like Nick said, don't let your PT fall behind. I was determined to get back to it as soon as I could and worked diligently at home with the exercises I was given to strengthen the knee and get back my range of motion. Listen to your PT and follow his advice and exercise plan. By doing that, I was back on the course (playing 9 the first time) in early April.

Good luck with surgery and rehab. You'll find it's one of the best things you've ever done.

Disclaimer: my replacement was on the right knee, which doesn't take near the stress and torque of the left for a right-handed golfer.
  9. Everybody's swing is different at the same times as trying to follow fundamentals also remember to Carter your swing to your particular comfort and success
  10. Work on your form and your swing angles And your lines target lines ect. Work on upper body strength and putting good luck bud.
  11. Hi Rob:

Good luck with your rehab! I dislocated and broke my wrist in February, just now getting back. Give yourself credit for small incremental improvement. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Depends on your marital status. You might want to get caught up on all those honey-dos that took a back seat because your buddies forced you out on the course every week.
Good luck with the knee replacement and let us know how it progresses. I was told last year by my ortho to start planning on it.
I told him I want the latest and greatest that will take 4 strokes off my game. He told me the best option for that would be to stop after 17 holes).
