When you least expect it, it happens.
We had been playing into the wind all day, and by the time I reached the 17th hole at the Moonah Course at The National Golf Club, I was completely spent.
The headwind was blistering and the distance was 147 metres. I was about to pull out my 5 wood, but I stopped to ask my husband Alan if I should use my driver instead. He suggested I take extra club to fight the wind, and he was right.
After one practice swing and a long deep breath, I told myself I needed something special here. I would have been happy with a par.
I made a controlled swing into the wind and watched the ball start left and gently fade. It bounced onto the fairway, rolled onto the green, and tracked straight toward the pin.
From the tee I could not see the hole because of the slope, so I had no idea what happened next.
When we walked up to the green and I could not find my ball, Alan suddenly yelled, “Check the hole!”
To my absolute disbelief, there it was.
Four years into my golfing journey, I had just made my first hole in one… with a yellow Titleist Pro V1x.
It is a moment I will never forget.
