  1. I’ve seen a wide variety of innovative designs and putter shapes over the years, yet the one thing that feels most natural and familiar to me is simply a blade putter. While holding a Pistol Grip might not be everyone’s “cup of tea” it’s an easy feel for me and has revealed itself time and time again in both touch and response while on the putting green.

As a few of the newer versions of the Newport have certainly become appealing to me, I’ve always been on to hold on to what feels good in my hands. Something to be said for lite and delicate touch around the cup at 6-10’ out, sided with confidence at 30’ or so without bowling over the cup.

The season is coming to a close here in Eastern Washington, I’ll likely be sending my 2004 Newport 2.5 in for a little brightening and tightening up the milling on the face.

    - I’m interested in hearing your thoughts on grips and blades - what’s your style?

Whatever putter you have, it needs to be the one you have the most confidence standing over your putt. If you don’t have confidence in the line you hit or speed control, then it is time to get fit for a putter that feels that way to you.

Apparently this putter fits you like TW’s does him through all those majors. Other than to take it back to original, I wouldn’t change a thing. Doubtful any of us would notice the difference, but even a replica by Scotty didn’t feel the same to TW. In TW’s case, he wouldn’t even get that one restored. Also, the one club Charlie is not allowed to touch.

To answer you other question, blades have never fit my eye nor have I had enough success trying one. But that’s why there are so many options. I’ve had great success with a mallet I was fit for. Until or if I lose confidence in it, it will be untouchable in my bag.
