  1. I have had a club in my son Colton's hand since he was about a year old in diapers.  I started with the plastic clubs and now he is in his first red Kids.  He has already made multiple pars and a couple birdies when I set him up from 100 yards and in and either play it is a par 3 or 4.  I pay him $1 for pars and $3 for birdies...his wallet is starting to build up :).  I love this kid so much and am so proud off him.

Thats great stuff. only advice is keep the game fun for him don't burn him out on it. aside from that great stuff i have my son doing the same thing. he turns 3 this november but i just try to keep the game light and fun for him.

    cheers greens and fairways

  3. Simba,

Thank you for the comment.  Ya that can be tough especially when we are both very competitive :).  I like to let him play for $ to make it fun for him.  What kid doesn't like $...lol.  I also put range buckets out on the range and try to let him hit them in or around it for a "game" and we have little putting and chipping contests.  Once he starts a clinic of some kind that will help too.

Good luck to you and your son as well!

    Hit it pure,

    Justin

    justin,

thanks for the post and great pics.  my son's 17 months old and i can't wait to get a club in his hands and start taking him out to hit balls.

    cheers!

  5. Fred,

Thank you for reaching out.  Get your son the plastic set.  They are only $5 and will get him on the right path with a club in his hand and swinging.  My son literally was in diapers...couldn't walk, but was swinign a club around the living room.

It will be fun when you go hit balls, but nothing is better than when he gets out of diapers.  Taking the diaper bag to the range is never fun...just one more thing to forget  Then when he finally gets in his undies and he pees himself out there...omg you want to flip.  lol...it is tough, but great in the long run.

Good luck to you and your boy.

    Take care,

    Justin

I can very much relate to you Justin!   I also started my son very early. He's 11 now but I still look at the youtube vid of him as a four year old and smile at the memories.  My son is still at it - just won his local tour's championship and player of the year award (yesterday!).   He's now playing to a 5 index and it's been a long time since I've been able to give him any real competition.  But I cherish every weekend we go out and play, or the time we spend getting ready for a tourney, or the time we spend on the range, or the time we spend driving to and from the range, just taking about everything.  Or the times we spend playing with my dad, who is now 86.  Amazing sport - not many like it for enabling the father-son bond to grow so strong.

  7. Eric,

Thank you for reaching out.  Congrats on your son.  That is awesome he won player of the year!  I hope Colton sticks with it.  I try to keep it fun for him and pay him as well for birdies $3  and pars $1.

I as well cherish the time we spend together on the course.  It is actually hard for me to make tee times without him as I feel like I am letting him down.  He understands though that daddy needs his friend time as well.

That is great to hear about your dad still being a part of it.  So cool he gets to see your son grow.  My dad passed away when I was 17 so my son never got to meet him.  I know he would be super proud though.

Well good luck to you and your son.  I wish you gusy the best.

Thanks for the cool thread Justin. Good to see youth's playing. I'll be playing a tournament with my two grandson's tomorrow. On the course one goes by Bubba Watson and the other is MK, I do TV commentary as we play. We play from 100 in and it's a hoot, they are getting better each game and having a blast. Good to see Titleist players taking an active part in the future of golf.
