How many different courses do you play in a year? Do you stick to your home course or are you a golf nomad?
I was reflecting on my second year progress and noticed I played over 50 rounds this last 12 months across more than 30 courses.

with my foursome we golf weekly at a different course in the area. a rotation of about 6-8 courses and we play at least once a week. i always make the tee times for the group and i try to rotate so by the time we make it back to a course its been at least a month. we don't stray to far, about 30 mile radius

The group I play with, we play about 75 rounds a year we have about 35 ish courses we bounce back and forth from and a few country clubs we get to play. We also travel the state once a month out of town and play 2 rounds a day close together. We all have discussed joining one club but none of us can stand to play one course over and over no matter how nice it might be.

Working 6 days a week, it makes it difficult to travel too far for playing a round. I have my 2 favorite local courses I play, and one is only a mile away, so I hit the range as much as I can.

Usually we play our home course, just because its close and convenient. I have ventured to Florida and some of the courses north of our house in GA. So far I think I have played 4 courses this year, but I just picked the clubs back up after not playing for more than 20 years!

This year I got a season pass at a local 9 hole course that is good for practice. This course was built in the late 1940's and has small greens. It doesn't get heavy play through the week and they have the greens and tees cut by 7am. So I'll play anywhere from 9 to 36 holes depending on how my legs hold up. This setup has been pretty good but I am tired of playing the same 9 over and over. Once a week I travel somewhere for a better course but that doesn't really help with that itch to play different courses. I have also tried being a member at the local country clubs, playing the same 18 over and over is about the same as playing the same 9 over and over, just costs more.
Next January I'll be joining the Robert Trent Jones Trail in Alabama which has 26 courses. I'm a nomad.

I've always wanted to try marathon golf, but my local courses are just way too crowded to try it.
Did you happen to notice any benefits to playing a course that you knew well vs unknown layouts, or do you feel like it was holding you back from improving? Part of me wonders where my game would be if I stuck to a single course more frequently.

In a normal year, meaning no golf trips , I play probably 5 or 6 courses in my home state.Probably 50 - 60 rounds per year.
If it's a year with a golf trip or two probably 10 -20 different course depending on the location of the trip.

I have a set of 6 courses that I play in San Diego (National City, Admiral Baker South, Oaks North, Miramar, Riverwalk, Tecolote Canyon). I play 25 rounds per year.

I play about 60 rounds a year wit 1/2 of those at my home course. The away rounds are on a rotation of about 10 courses.
i do think that playing one course regularly improves your scoring

I play the majority of my rounds on my home course because that's what is most convenient but I do like to get around a bit throughout the year. Between work travel, vacation and travel for golf tournaments, I probably play about 25-30 different courses throughout the year. It's always fun to get a little variety in where you play.

My weeknight league plays at the same course each week, but for all my other rounds I like to play different courses. I set a two hour radius from my house for going out and trying different courses. The ones I really enjoy playing I usually go back to each year, but I always try to add in some new ones also. I also take trips every year to Tennessee and Arkansas and even though we always play the same courses, it's nice since that's the only time I play those courses. Excluding my league, I average about 40 rounds a year.
