I lost the final of our match play competition at our club last Monday. I made a few putts, but not enough. My opponent knocked in a couple more than me. My only complaint was that we were still playing at the end of September, rather than the end of August because some guys were late getting their matches in. When I commented on this to the club's general manager he replied that we were both playing the same course. I acknowledged that, and I also gave credit where credit was due. My point was that if the golf course was playing true we would not have declared all bunkers unplayable, and a 180 drive would run out to 200, not hit and stick. Being a shorter hitter, I was at a definite disadvantage. I took the match to the 17th hole, but quite frankly, I was outgunned, and my putter didn't save me. First time I have lost in 4 years of match play at my club, and I am more determined than ever to win back the title next year.
