I don't see how you guys and gals from the north stand the cold winter that keeps you from playing for months at a time. Here in Arkansas we are blessed with decent golf weather almost year around. With the latest artic fronts that have pushed down across the Midwest and into the South, golf has come to a halt with greens being covered with tarps for protection. I have gone now over three weeks without playing and am about to go crazy. It looks like the ground hog was right about 6 more weeks of winter, at least around these parts.

It has been a very interesting year in Utah as well....Known for our SNOW in November, December, January, and February....we have had little snow in the valley and this has been great for those of us who don't mind putting on a base layer and hitting the links.  If my memory serves me right...it was about 10 years ago that this happened as well.  It's fun to tell people that you have played the entire year and you are from Utah.

Simple. Spring training runs for 4 months. Wear multiple layers, cold weather gloves, and find the heated bays for outdoor ranges that keep your waist warm without frying your head. Fix your swing and spend Saturday mornings either on range or in the gym working on flexibility. Important to keep the time slot allocated so that it doesn't become year round honey-do events.

Northern winters are brutal for golfers.  But it gives me time to do other things.  Until a serious shoulder injury, I use to snowboard to occupy my time.  Now I have two young kids.  The winter break from golf gives a lot of time to spend with the kids.  Plus it gives me time to build up my "golf credits."  If I was playing a couple of times a week all year, I have a feeling my wife might have something to say about it.

I alternate between  depression and jealousy …  I LOVE golf !   I want to play or practice everyday if it were possible.  When the weather gets cold you can dress warmer but when the snow comes then there is no hope of playing.  heated driving ranges , simulators and indoor putting greens are only a tease.  I count the days until the spring thaw or dream of retirement.  until then I can still find comfort the golf channel and companionship at team titleist.

They are very hard to get through indeed and this winter does not seem to want to give up. Generally you can catch a day or two in the high 30's here in New Jersey and try to hit the range. This winter, my normal golf buddies and I have taken to the simulators. There are some virtual golf facilities around which can cure the winter's itch to play around. Although it is not the same, it is as close as you can get with a couple feet of snow on the gound! At ~$50 per hour it is a pretty good option.

I agree Carl T, I live in Ky and up until the second week of February I had played I had played twice a week for sixteen months straight. Many days in 30 degree weather but none the less we played. But 2 weeks ago we received 13 inches of snow and that was followed by 14 days of below freezing temps so it is all still here. So tomorrow is 21 days straight without playing I am going stir crazy. And wife, she can't wait until I can go play because I am driving her crazy.

To be honest come Sept I usually excited get excited about fall because I enjoy small game hunting here in Ohio and Pa. Although this winter has been way too much. When we get to march the thoughts of Titleist do tend to start.

    Hi Carl,

Please don't feel too sorry for us up here. I have gone out lots of times when it was below freezing. The only thing that stops us is the snow. When everything is frozen, you play a different game. You play short. And you play bump and runs. Forget holding a green. Its like hitting the cart path. You really get to try shots that you wouldn't dream of in spring and summer. Just layer up and play.

    Play Well,

    Steve S.

I am in an indoor simulator golf league so I play once a week from Jan - Mar and in between practice either in a heated bay or electronic putting cup in the living room .  Warmer weather cannot come soon enough though!

I work on my short game - chipping, pitching and putting in-doors.  I do this because this is where you can save strokes in a round.  Sometimes, if there is no snow cover, I'll find a place to just practice my swing - if possible, I may hit a few balls and don't worry about results due to how bundled up I am.

I live in NorCal so I'm lucky that I get to golf 12 months a year.

My last round was Valentines day. The weather forecast does not look good until next week which will make a few days over 3 weeks without playing. Yesterday I was tempted to play as the temperature got up to 55 but there were showers off and on an today the temperature is dropping like a rock and we are expecting 3 to 5 inches of a snow/sleet mix. It has been raining steadily since early this morning. Hope is on the way after this last storm as next week the forecast is highs in the 60's to low 70's. I guess I can hold out a few more days.

There are plenty of activities to keep me busy in Northern Wisconsin. I like to snowshoe, ice fish, hit balls in the simulator at the course and when all that fails, jump on a plane to somewhere warm for a few rounds of golf.

  15. Northerners watch a lot of the Golf Channel during our winter of discontent. That and  spend a lot of time on the Titleist web site.

Its a nice break from fall to spring .I feel refreshed when I get back to playing here in Michigan. Actually finish some home projects through the winter months. Do get the itch come late February.
  17. Fortunately I travel periodically and am able to get down to the warmer climes for a few rounds.  Otherwise it's sim golf at an indoor range once a week during our long Alaskan winters.  In fact, I'll have a new set of AP2's waiting at the hotel for me next week when I arrive in TX. :-)
