Looks like the weather may begin to get nicer and that means its time to start the season. I am curios how other players begin the year. Some may head to the first tee, some to the range?

I like to ease into it with the wedges only hitting about 1 buckets of balls 50 to 60 yards for 2 or 3 sessions concentrating on just feeling the club and hitting the ball consistently and then work my way to the range were Ill start taking full swings! Probably take about a week until I actually hit the course.

Cant wait to start the year!

    Eric,

I will spend a half hour in the bunker hitting greenside bunker shots to short and long targets. I also put some effort into hitting fairway bunker shots. I have found doing this helps build strength in my arm/wrists and also helps me with my swing sequence. I will also devote the next hour practicing putting doing some speed drills, circle drills, and lag putting drills. I'll then spend about a half hour either working on chipping or short pitching drills keeping my focus on hitting practice targets. After about a month of this, I'll put my focus on my full swing while continuing to spend 1 hour every day working on putting drills.

I work in this manner as its helps build early season strength and helps me gain greenside touch so I can sharpen my ability to score before I change my focus to my long game. Putting practice never hurts your game as long you have drills that focus on outcomes.

    Best Wishes,

I hit balls all winter long at the heated range so when the ice is gone I'm ready to go!

I usually head to the range and warm up with wedges and work my way up to my driver. I then put around the practice green. Nice to just get loosened up and back into the feel.

Usually like to head out of Michigan and head somewhere warm for a couple of rounds of golf before our season gets into full gear

I like to go out and play a round. Let's me see where I am starting out the year, albeit in less than ideal conditions. Then I go to the range unless my putting touch is really bad; in which case I work the putting green for a while, then the range. Good days in the northeast are too rare to skip that first round IMO.

I usually will play a round or 2 to knock the rust off before I start working on my game. I think this lets my swing come back and I tent to play more than practice any way.

I'm with you and can wait to start the year also. To get prepared for the season, I get out in the yard every day with my action wedge and hit balls about 40 yards to a target area to build up a consistency in my swing and accuracy to the target. I will do this actually all season in the evening as I enjoy doing it and it relaxes me. I also will start putting inside the house on a smooth carpet to a putting cup at each end of the room and do it until I put four balls in consistently. Good luck to a good season!!!!!

I usually play a few rounds before hitting the range. I like to get out and see how everything works on the course and then have a plan for the range.

    Grindelwald,

I usually go to the range once a week during winter
When it gets warmer again I start sharping my iron game first and only afterwards start with the metals

Have a good start into the new season everyone

There are very few and far between days that we can't come out and play where I'm at, (SoCal). It's a year round season, however, there are course aerations and the greens have to heal for a month during spring and fall.
But with all that said and done, it's always good to start small and work towards bigger swings.

    Happy golfing, 2016.

I normally will play a few rounds in the winter, but then in March, I will play lots more. I normally will go to the range and spend 5-10 minutes on each club hitting a full bucket and just getting the feel of my swing again. I will play a lot of rounds of golf thinking of them as practice rounds trying to get accustomed to golfing again. This will knock the rust off and get me ready for the warm season that's coming.
