How often do you practice, range or on the course?

I think everyone has different thoughts on practice/range time depending on where they are with their game. I spend most of my "practice time" on short game (short pitches, chipping & putting) and will work on hitting full shots when I'm having an issue. For young players, they certainly need to practice to build their muscle memory, but don't over practice. When we get tired, bad habits start to creep in and then we are just reinforcing the bad habits.

I generally dont practice (lack of time or perhaps patience!!) Play 2 rounds in competitions each week from April - end of July and then just once per week for the rest of the year. Still able to play off 6 but would like to get more time to try and bring it down a little.

The amount of ractice time for me would depend on the what I am working on. If it's new to me, it can be a couple times a day but short until I get closer to it or fully understand what I'm doing- then I can spend more time to practice on actually using it. This is the only way I can trace back if I see things not working.

While mostly everyone probably differ on how much they need/want to practice, I think it is important to focus on a specific thing every time you are working on your game. For example, going to the range and just working on your distance control with wedges or just putting on the practice green. Find what works for you and I think you'll see improvements.

Practice doesn't make perfect, Perfect practice make perfect.

Definitely not enough! If I get to the range and practice short game once a week, that is about it for me.

I usually hit the range when working on known issues. But at least 1 time a week I work on chipping & pitching. I play various games doing that with 3 clubs & putter. If I get a new club I'll hit it a few days until I can feel & see what it will do.

I have dedicated practice sessions, where I work on one or two specific things, at least twice a week for usually at least an hour, or more each time. My least favorite practice session usually revolves around putting drills. But, by making a challenge out of each drill, it helps me focus. For example, I will putt 6 balls from 15 feet below the hole and require myself to make at least 4 of 6 with the other two being tap-ins. If I don't achieve this, I start over and try again, and again and again until I do. Then I move to 10 feet above the hole and start the drill again. I do it until I accomplish my goal, before moving to a slider putt and start again. Once I have completed all directions, I might work on lags. I'll hit 6 35-footers. My goal is to be able to two-putt all, otherwise I start over. Once I accomplish, I will lag them all back to a downhill hole with the same goal. Having a goal in practice sessions, whatever you're working on, puts pressure on yourself and forces you to focus. When I'm on the range, I do the same type of challenges. It really helps with consistency, which is key to a good game. I NEVER just bang balls with no target or goal. Even when working on a specific swing thought, I still have a target or goal.

In addition to dedicated practice sessions at the course, I usually play 3-4 days a week, plus pitch, chip and/or hit 80-120 yard full wedge shots to targets in my backyard virtually everyday. If I don't have a club in my hands for more than a day or two, I feel like I'm going backward.

Unfortunately, I only get to hit the range or course about once a week. Sometimes twice. If I have things to work on I prefer to do that on the range. I like my rounds to be more of a test of my game instead of a session to try new things.

3 times a week , playing or practice mix.
  11. I practice 6 days a week focusing on a specific lesson plan for each day. Sometimes weather messes up my plans however it does give me a chance to practice in less than ideal conditions when it occurs!

I usually practice two days a week and play 3 days a week. I have come to the conclusion for me that the only way to bring your practice to the game is to play and try to execute what you have practiced. For me there are certain situations in my short game that I get like a deer in the head lights when playing but in practice there are no problems. The only way to get over this is to play and take the results good or bad and try to adjust for the next similar situation if the previous one was bad. If you can do it in practice you can do it in play. I now try to focus on situations I do not practice very much e.g. as using a longer iron for a short distance shot to keep the ball low, chipping out of thick grass for shots around the green, flop shots when you are short sided, etc. The routine shot practice is good but you have to execute what you have learned. I do not try shots that I have not practiced as these usually end in disaster.

I have a net in my backyard and hit balls everyday if possible. I can practice pitching up to 35 yards and I have a putting green in the basement at work. I try to get to the range once a week to evaluate my ball flight and accuracy. unfortunately , I can only play once a week but the daily practice and ball striking keep my game consistent. If I had unlimited free time I would play everyday but probably still be quite a range rat as well.

Because I did not start playing golf until I was 51, I need a little more personal practice than maybe others. I try to get in 1-1/2 hours on Monday, Wednesday & Friday. League play is on Tuesday and Thursday. And on weekends I try to play at least one of those days.
I feel as though practice, whether on the driving range or putting green, helps me carry on what my instructor has asked me to do. I am now 67 and consider myself a much better player than when I was in my 50s.
  15. I practice 4 or 5 days a week. Itry and hit about 150 to 200 balls at each session it all depends on what I am working on
  16. I hit 50 shots with my lob wedge in the back yard before playing the next day. Found it helps me get closer to the pin and one stroke less per hole. The trick is to think every shot, not just become a mechanical striker.

Also I prefer playing the course rather than hitting ball after ball on the range.
  17. I actually make practice part of my routine daily. I am one of those weird guys that enjoys practice and it makes my game pretty good

My relaxation is going out in the yard in the evening and hitting my action wedge every day. I work on my consistency and will hit a few dozen or more balls. This really keeps my game in tune and I enjoy doing this!

I hit the range at least 3-4 times a week during the summer. I'm a coach so summer is my main golfing time. At the beginning I work mainly short game just to get my touch back and will hit the range when I know I need to work out my iron game. Good luck to you and your practices.

I definitely don't get on the course as much as I should, but I go to the range quite a few times per week. I go from PW to 4-iron, hitting about 7-10 shots with each, then go 3W then driver about 12 times each. I follow it up with going to the putting green. I should really practice chipping more, after seeing my routine typed out just now.

Really only hit on the range when something is not right. Majority of practice should be on chipping and putting! Sitting there hitting balls can get monotonous and lead to bad habits. Much rather get out there and play 9 holes than hit balls for 2 hours! Good luck
