What Weather Do You Play Your Worst

    Arkansas has received record rainfall for the month of August and our golf course is sopping wet. All carry and no roll. Plugged balls, mud splattered shoes and clothing and wet gloves. After not playing for 5 days I was getting cabin fever and decided to play in our regular Wednesday golf group game. We played in a light drizzle and I can say I played the worst game of the year and maybe a couple of years. Thinking back I have never played well on a sopping wet golf course. The forecast for our Saturday game is a 60% chance of thunderstorms. I have decided not to play. I hate it but knowing that I have never played well in the rain just makes golf no fun for me. What weather conditions is the absolutely worse for your scoring ?

    33 deg F with a 20 MPH wind in February. I can never warm up and I am stiff the entire round. The ball will not compress. It's like hitting a rock. I can deal with heat and rain no problem.

    I find windy and very dry as my most challenging golf weather. The ball goes farther, but is much harder to control. Up here in Ontario Canada we had a big dry spell and temps reaching 120f with the humidex. I find that to be the hardest physically ( I always walk) and the hardest conditions to control the golf ball

    I think the majority of golfers dislike really wet and soft conditions. I don't mind playing in some rain, but a sopping wet course, where balls plug and irons leave divots halfway to China, is not typically good for scoring. My best scores are on hard, fast conditions, with receptive greens. The only thing good about super wet conditions is that you may get the option (or give yourself the option) to play lift, clean and place. A perfect lie in the fairway, every time, is always worth a couple/few strokes.

    Cold weather by far.. I'm a SoCal guy and love the heat, but in cold the unpured shots sting, ears cold and you're bundled up... No thanks!

    Sopping wet course is my worst hands down. I pick the ball usually but when it's really wet I hit a lot of fat shots as I seem to dig a bit more instead of slide on top of the grass. Then the rough being wet & taller doesn't do me any favors. I like normal conditions or cooler firmer conditions like late fall or early spring. But sopping wet I struggle. I can play in rain heavy rain unless the course is already soaked then I chunk along until I'm tired. Lol

    In the UK, the weather is very variable all year round; if you don't like it, wait five minutes!
    I can play in most 'singular' weather conditions as long as they aren't too extreme. However when it's a combination of weather types ie wind and rain, I really suffer badly, and usually headed not to the car fairly quickly!

    for me it's high wind. it's alway hard to judge just how much the wind will affect the distance and spin. sometimes you calculate/guess right sometimes not...

    Rain, sun, hot, cold, cloudy. Wait I see a pattern here. I can play bad in any weather.

    Oddly enough rain doesn't phase me too much, but wind is not great. Quite frankly, the recent humidity and hot temps here in Pittsburgh/Michigan have NOT helped at all. I don't want to wear my rain gloves, yet there is always a dampness around my hands and grips, and I have quite a few poor shots because of it. So right now the game is not tight!

    Heat and humidity...no question. Once upon a time, I could handle it. But as I age, I just can't get comfortable.
    The physical discomfort plays on my mind and then my game is toast.

    On he opposite side, I absolutely love playing in the rain.

    One of the most enjoyable rounds I ever had was when I was caught unprepared for rain at the farthest hole from the clubhouse. It poured rain in buckets, I was totally soaked, no rain gear, only rain gloves. I lowered my expectations, hit the ball into the rain and tracked it down. May sound crazy but I had a blast!!

    I hate windy and wet by far. For me I struggle to control the ball flight in the wind and I hit a very high ball so when it's wet the ball just embeds into the fairway

    Spring weather when the rough is "juicy" and the greens are aerated. Add in 50 degree temperatures and a little rain and forget about breaking 80, you're lucky to break 90.

    Although I pretty much stink in most weather I do play well in the rain. I'm a mudder! The wetter, sloppier, just plain drenching the better. I struggle in the wind like I'm sure a lot of people do but that's due to my high ball flight. NASA makes me register my golf balls prior to play as not to be confused with UFO's.

    I live on the West Coast of Scotland and it's wet wet wet every day even when the sun has been out! I play in any weather just to get a game in and played a few years ago on New Year's Day when the ground was solid with frost, hit my longest tee shot ever with a 6 iron into a par 3, gps told me I hit it 381 yards.

    I'm pretty sure I'm not the only sad case up here.

    Wow! A 381 yard par 3. That is a manly par 3!

    Grindelwald,

    as soon as I need to put on too many thick jackets, my body rotation gets a bit restricted, so I tend to not play that good anymore
