When putting, what type of alignment method do you use? I use the plumb bob method!!

  2. I'm a big fan of using the alignment aid that most ball manufacturers have created for us. I find that aligning the line or lettering on the ball with the line I want to putt on, combined with the sight line or top of the putter head is the most consistent way for me to make the 6' putts.

I walk the green (360*) for feel and see my lines. Align the ball with my markings and take my shot.

I'm old school, I still plumb bob.

Sometimes to much information to process and that can cause a lot of misses: which way the grass grows, the time of day you are playing, which way it breaks; towards the ocean, the mountains, where is the sun, and finally those subtle breaks.

I just try for a good alignment and strike it with good pace. There is an old saying, "you study long, you study wrong"!
  5. I stand behind my ball and set the site line of my putter to the line I want and then move parallel to my ball and putt. It hasn't failed me yet.

nothing crazy try to keep it simple. Take a look crouched down. standup take a look and stand over it and make any other adjustments to alignment depending on what my feet are telling me as I take my practice stroke then go.

I look at the putt from off the green as I walk up. Than I look from the low point and than from behind the ball. Pick a line, setup to the line. Then its all about speed. Get the speed right and even if you miss, its a tap in.

I purposely don't use the alignment arrows. That always seems to get me in trouble. Instead, I visualize the line along which I think the putt needs to travel and then look at the hole while trying to find the proper swing length with a couple practice strokes. I then step up and make my stroke using a spot in front of the ball to pass the center of my putter over. Then I plead for the ball to do as I had envisioned as it rolls towards the hole. Sometimes it listens.

As I'm walking or riding up to the green I survey the area around my ball. When I reach the green and approach my ball I survey the area between my ball and the hole. I pace off the distance from my ball to the hole getting a feel of the ground/slope/angle. I crouch behind my ball about five feet to visualize my line. I stand up, approach my ball marker and crouch down behind my ball marker, and place my ball with alignment arrow -Pro V1x- on my line. Stand up next to my ball, take three practice strokes as if I was putting the ball. Finally address my ball ready to stroke it in the hole!

I use Aimpoint Express [read an article in the May 2015 Golf Magazine] and an alignment line on the ball. Aimpoint Express has helped my green reading (unfortunately, I still have to hit the putt!) And, since I do not have to crouch down, it saves my knees. JAT

I take a look at the putt from behind the ball and judge how much speed is needed to get the ball about a foot or so beyond the cup. Then I go behind the cup and judge the line that speed of a putt will take. I sometimes think the position of the moon interferes with my putts.

Putting... some days ya' got it, some days ya' don't.

    Grindelwald,

I use the line on the ball to set the ball to my target.
Furthermore I use the aimpoint method

I'm a lot like Doug above. I'll get a good feel for the line (just seems to be naturally easy for me) then I'll pick out two spots along that line, one at the apex of the break and another just in front of the ball in line with the further spot and then just hopefully make a solid stroke.

    heanor,

    I also use AimPoint express.

Get a measure of the break with my feet. Imagine rolling the ball and putt.
