Apparently, the CDC has reversed itself, again, regarding the transmission of COVID-19, particularly as it relates to surface contamination.Person to person contact remains the primary transmission source, not contact surfaces (such as flagsticks or cups) as the CDC previously stated. With that said, I'm hoping we're moving in the direction of putting the cup back where it belongs, not in a "raised state" as it is now.

I know it's early in the game, and we're all happy to be back (especially my fellow Massachusetts players;last state in the nation to open for play-thank you very much) but with respect to these recent findings, I'm wondering if the USGA has weighed in on this issue, along with individual state golf associations and state governments, who ultimately set the guidelines for play.

So for anyone in TT nation on the forefront of this issue, given the CDC's reversal, are we moving toward the cup being placed in its normal position sooner rather than later?

    Thank you

Guess that is left up to the General Managers and Course Superintendents, as well as the Governor's of each state.
SC never stopped playing golf. They allowed locals to play golf but think a few tourists worked their way in during the pandemic. Local municipalities pretty much set their own rules here.
  3. I sure would hope we are in the stages of the holes back to being normal. I am personally tired of the raised cups and ready to hear the ball drop in the hole

Life will never be the same as we know it. Stuff like this I go with the flow. It is what it is.

Honestly I’m just happy being able to play golf at all. I don’t mind the cup raised or upside down or whatever. I’m not a pro either, I play to an 11.2 currently so
I rarely dunk the ball or hit a hole in one. If I have to have a raised cup to keep playing, hey, it’s better than non golf at all.

I'm fine with the raised cup. Just excited to be able to get back out there, and playing as a 4some.

Hey guys there are som sweet alternatives to the raised cup! My club has been using pool float foam things in the cup, others have used some PVC pipe in the cup, the ball can still slightly fall in. Its still not the best, but its something. There also some sweet invention i saw on social media that used like a lever system to pull a plat up from the bottom of the cup! I have no idea where you can get those but they look awesome!! Maybe check with the ppl in charge at your club about trying something else!

Yes, I've seen that... if I'm not wrong, I think this is the device you mean. Pretty simple.

Like many, I've seen a few different ways of raising the bottom of the cup so that golfers need not reach way down the cup to retrieve a ball. Honestly, I don't like any of them and I have not heard nor read if the USGA have been a part of it.

Anyway, while I'm not sure what direction any of the authority is taking what should be done with the golf cups, I just hope we all get back to a normal cup.

At my course here on North Shore of Long Island cups are back down however they have swim noodles in the cup to about 1 inch below the green line.

No worries, I will just be happy to get back to playing golf in a couple of weeks. No cups on the range.

    No'l Those are awesome.

Spent over an hour on the putting green this morning putting into raised cups. I'm not a fan. It will be up to the Superintendents, GM's and Presidents of the club to sort this out.
In the meantime, we accept the cards we are dealt with.
  14. We play til the ball is in the cup. So far have had two in-outs in the raised cups. Not a fan!

It is what it is. We are in a new normal. This is a minor thing compared to the big picture. Just happy to be healthy and playing golf.

I rarely putt out so whatever the rule of the week is won't affect me much.

Played a course one week that had raised cups then no raised cups a week later. Seems like things are getting back to normal somewhat. Next step will be returning tee time spacing to the discretion of the club, just joined a course that said they’re losing out on 40% of tee times right now.

I dont really get the raised cups as a transmission area or flag sticks. But at least Ohio was open

I went to the CDC website and was unable to locate anything regarding surface contamination. Do you by some chance have the URL where you found this information and could you send it our way?
