Hey guys, first time poster here. Going to be in St. Pete Beach in September for a couple days and was wondering if there are any public courses in the area that anyone would recommend for a couple rounds with a good friend. Thanks in advance!

It all depends on how far you want to drive. Mangrove Bay is close to the beaches. In largo you have Bardmoor and Cove cay. Clearwater has Clearwater CC and The Landings. If you want to drive a bit farther you can hit Palm harbor/Oldsmar area where there are about 6 different courses you can play. Lansbrook, Eagles (36 Holes), Cresent Oaks, Dunedin CC, Westchase and Fox Hollow are some of the nicer courses.

Just make sure the course hasn't been punched as September is when most places start to get ready for our season here.

This is a great start! Thanks! So far my plans are to post up at Crabby Bill's on the rooftop and to get in a round or two. I appreciate the intel!

Their fried grouper sandwich is to die for! There is also a greek owned place across from the beach parking lot call Post Corner Pizza. We always order a meat lovers pizza and watch the sun set from the front porch of the restaurant.

All great recommendations above... there's also TPC Tampa Bay which isn't too far of a drive. You can also check out Innisbrook. And Streamsong is around 90 minutes away and worth every second of the drive if you're ok with logging a few miles.

Depending on your budget, Innisbrook is right up the road, and personally, knowing that area pretty well, venture down to Legacy Golf Club at Lakewood Ranch or University Park. The public golf in Pinellas County isn't great, a few of the previously mentioned courses are decent, if you're just looking for some exercise. I used to frequent the Wentworth/Crescent/Lansbrook circa, they were pretty decent, but have heard they've fallen a bit.

    ***Update***
I will not be travelling to St. Pete in September. My buddy that was supposed to be getting married is no longer getting married - but still get married, just later, if you follow me. I sure don't. Time to roll that ticket over somewhere else with Mrs. T. If anyone has any advice on how to make your wife fall in love with the past time that she hates, I'm all ears...

    Jon,

Get her into horses, she'll out-spend you, which justifies my club membership/boys trips/shoe collections. End of the year, I spend a pretty penny on golf, still can't keep up with my other half. Going to Cape Breton next month, still cheaper than her last outing!
