I’m planning an Arizona golf trip and could use some advice from anyone who’s been down there recently. I usually go to Vegas and play out at Las Vegas Paiute — love the scenery, layout, and overall vibe of those courses.

For those who know the Arizona scene well, are there any courses that give off a similar feel? I’m looking for something with: • Wide fairways with a bit of desert framing • Great conditioning • Scenic views • A fun but challenging layout • Not necessarily crazy-priced like the top Scottsdale resorts

If anyone has recommendations — Scottsdale, Phoenix, Mesa, anywhere — I’d really appreciate it. Also open to any travel tips, must-plays, or places to avoid.

    Thanks in advance!

You didn’t say when you are coming. We have a lot of seasonal residents and winter visitors so all the courses are super crowded and priced accordingly through the winter. Best bargains are in the summer when it’s hot. Spring and fall you have to watch out for overseeding closures. My personal favorite for travelers is the We-Ko-Pa resort. Nice hotel with a casino and two great courses. Northeast of the city but still easy enough to drive back in for other things to do like see Old Town Scottsdale, catch a spring training baseball game, do Top Golf or Pop Stroke, and get to some nice restaurants.

Awesome thanks man. Just trying to figure out everyone’s availability sometime early 2026 before it gets overly hot .

As an AZ native who grew up playing courses all over the Valley, I will give you my list of courses I think are super fun, good scenery and worth the money...

    1. Gold Canyon (Dinosaur Mountain): With out a doubt my #1 favorite golf course, my dad and I would find a summer rate of about $40 and play in the 115* degree weather, but still a blast. Will likely cost you close to $200 or more in the high season, still worth every penny.

    2. Ken McDonald: Decent muni, good rates and a fun course.

    3. Arizona Traditions: Sun City golf course, good rates and a tight layout to test your iron game.

    4. Encanto 18: People will probably trash me for this, but this is one of the oldest courses in AZ. I played high school golf for 4 years and this was our home course. From what I hear its in decent shape and the rates aren't bad.

    5. Las Sendas: Nicklaus design, desert golf, beautiful layout amongst the boulders and canyons. Rates a high in the high season.

Of course if you are only coming to AZ for high dollar bucket list golf, then there's a different list...

    1. Gold Canyon (Dinosaur Mountain): Still #1

    2. Quintero Golf Club: Insanely expensive in the high season, but one of the nicest courses in AZ... beware, it's target desert golf.

    3. TPC Scottsdale (Stadium Course): You know the story.

    4. The Raven (Phoenix): Great course, you will feel like you are not in Phoenix surrounded by all the pines ($$$$ rates in high season).

    5. The Legacy (South Mountain): Fantastic layout, $$$$ rates, in amazing shape year round.

    Best of luck!
