This is such a great thread - thanks for sharing, Bryan! I take barre classes throughout the year to stay in shape, but also add strength. We focus on abdominals, upper body/arms, legs, flexibility and back strengtheners. As a full body workout, I find that I warm up quickly on the golf course and know what I need to do prepare for the round ahead. I would strongly recommend to people of all ages!

  2. Here is my one year update. I started yoga after much nagging from my wife and it has improved my flexibility and increased my swing speed. I also find that walking while playing tends to keep me loose. Thanks, everyone for the replies and I agree with your posts flexibility is key!

Orange Whip! 20-30 mins a day will keep you loose.

I only wish I didn't wait until I was 67 to explore TPI. That evaluation showed all the areas that could be improved. The most restrictive was hip turn. My routine is mostly stretches including some Yoga. Along with taking me "back about 10 years", in everyday life I have better mobility and far fewer issues with physical issues, including lower back soreness. Sadly, I can shovel snow again and that makes it harder to justify a service.

I would recommend stretching exercises. I was getting shorter with my swing without realizing it. Took a lesson and the PGA Pro started to stretch me swing further. Turned my hips where I began to feel the stretch. Lo and behold I was hitting it further. It was like a "ahh" moment. Turn to swing further. (not sway!)
  6. I am 62 and the Drives have gone from 300 to 230 so no more Eagle putts on the par 5’s
But now my game is much more about about Strategy and getting the right distances for the scoring. clubs
I continue the do the exercises mostly listed in previous posts and I also wait patiently for a double Hip replacement which will mean lots of strength work to recuperate so should mean an increase in distance even if just another 20/30 yards fingers crossed
But I will never go back to the days when it seemed effortless I am happy with the different pleasures golf brings these days

Yoga will help with flexibility as well as balance. My husband (reluctantly) tried yoga and when he started gaining distance and speed, was a convert. He does a yoga video at home a couple times a week.

Big fan of yoga... There a bunch of varieties and experience levels. And if you don't do yoga, stretch before and after exercise!
