As my son starts the arduous journey of learning the game of golf, I am curious to opinions and practices of everyone who have had success in the game. He's 7 so I'm not going crazy with it. Just letting him enjoy it and have fun. But we are starting the First Tee program in Houston, which is really well done. What has been everyone's experience?

I would also love to hear some Titleist input on this one, and if the company does any beginner work (aside from Junior fittings).

These are his clubs all cleaned and ready. I need to order a Junior titleist hat since apparently none of my local stores carry them.

  2. With any new friends he makes through golf/the first tee do everything you can to grow and continue those friendships outside of the golf course. Speaking from experience, once he reaches age 9 or 10 and you ask him if he wants to go golfing the first thing they will ask is "can so and so come to?" If they have to chose between golf or spending time with their friends, the friends usually win, a true friend on and off the course at that age is rare, build friendships first, golf skills second.

Well done dad- you've got him junior clubs with proper weights and shaft flexes which will make the game so much easier than those cut-down clubs we were given! Allow him to have fun, let him go play holes on the course, keep it positive. If he takes to the game consider PGA Jr League (little league of golf) at age 8 or 9. Watching my 2 sons play in the PGA Jr League program has been so much fun!

Purchase and read VJ Trolio's book, "Only One Shot". I wish I had the book 5 years ago when my son started playing at a high level.
