On a golf course the sound of nature is music to me.

For me it depends on the round I am playing. If I am playing 9 holes after a stressful day of work, I prefer to walk and not have any music. Its a great way to unwind, clear my head, and relax. Having the course to myself for a twilight round is an absolute treat.

On the other hand, a Saturday round with a group of friends I would go with a cart and some classic rock. Some Tom Petty, a nice cigar, and some cold beers on a warm Saturday at the course is about as much fun as you can have.

I guess it goes to show that there is a time and a place for everything. Ultimately, Ive found a great approach is to just not be an ***...

Three no, no's for me on the course, slow play, loud music and smoking (reformed smoker)......with respect

70's/80's for most of my rounds played with my usual group of friends.

When it's just my best buddy and I we tend to play random things from Spotify to change it up.
  5. I was put off music on the golf course at a Spanish resort course where, for the first six holes and more, you could hear the outdoor Zumba class blasting out... Not recommended!!

Agree with the no's, and like Chuck's 3 no's. If you want or need music then go sit in your car and have at it.

Just please keep it down...we don't need to hear it two fairways over! If you think anyone else can be bothered than do the right thing and lower it a few notches. Thank you.
  8. I used to be someone who hated music on the golf course and found it annoying because I preferred the sounds of nature and what was happening around me. I have since changed my stance and now carry a small portable speaker in my bag for when I’m playing. I usually listen to radio margaritaville on XM radio. But there are still times I enjoy no music. To me it’s whatever helps you relax on the course without being a nuisance to your playing partners.
  9. Sometimes when I play on my own I will wear earphones.

Lee Trevino said he used to go to the end of the range and blare his radio. One, because it was enjoyable while he pounded balls all day. Two, because it kept others away so could concentrate on practice. I love music when I'm playing and practicing. I have a Bose bluetooth speaker when I'm playing by myself. Have 3 pair of apple airpods that I rotate in case they die when playing with other people. I'd rather listen to my music and other things than listen to everyone's problems and political beliefs. It's actually quieter with my noise cancelling earbuds in and it helps me concentrate more. When I do play in a tournament, I have immense powers of concentration because I'm used to noise and distractions. I play TV on my iphone in my cart sometimes when there's a tournament or a program I want to listen to. Gold is like driving. Too much silence is boring. This topic was brought up a few years ago and younger kids said golf is too boring and the people are too stuffy and old fashioned. Top Golf blares music and it's a party. Tiger Woods dad would train him to play through as many distractions as he could to get him used to the noise and distractions when playing on Tour. I totally agree with that. But if people want to play with zero sound, all power to them. I also listen to audiobooks when I'm playing and practing.
  11. It depends who I'm playing with. There is a group of older gentlemen that I play with that prefer not to listen to music when we play.

But when I play with my group of friends that are closer to my age we are always listening to music when we play. We listen to a far range of music. We prefer hip hop and or country.

Classic country is the only way to go!
  13. Like what others said above.. It depends on the group your playing with. I do enjoy the background of music esp while walking.. Just gets me pumped up for my game.. Just like music before playing a team sport.. gets the juices going and feeling more relaxed.. In regards to type of music.. Almost anything...but never too loud to miss that great sounding shot off the tee!!!

I wear ear buds on the range but not on the course unless I am golfing alone (which is rare).

One of my regular foursome has a small Bluetooth speaker which he carries on his motocaddy - I used to laugh at it but have become accustomed to hearing the tunes on the tee. He keeps it pretty low though and unless you are within about 10-15 feet you cannot hear the music. Decent compromise I think.

    my two cents.
  15. Part of the reason I love golf is the sounds of being out in nature, and, the banter with my friends. If someone has to listen, please wear headphones. There was a guy blasting Zeppelin on the adjoining tee when i was trying to putt. As a result he and his buddies were shouting to hear each other. Not exactly a relaxing round.

I've played golf for about 30 years and can't say i've ever come across music on the golf course! Is it something that happens more in the US than elsewhere?
